Honestly I have always liked to draw, and that sort of became my thing. I wanted to do something that is creative, but also challenges me. I have always love print - looking at book layouts, magazine layouts and things like that. So I decided to become a graphic designer. And illustrator, but that is almost a given.
I’m working on the visual identity of a “festival” (for a lack of better word). My main challenge as a designer was to find a balance between the kind of work i want to do and what is best for the project. It can be humbling to put away your own personal taste for a second and really focus on how to deliver what the client wants.
I always start with a sketch. Many sketches. Sometimes the first few designs already work, in which case I would just roll with it. Then I work on it, get frustrated, then take a break. I feel like taking time off the project is very important, especially with things like designing a logo, where the outcome is not supposed to be big or complicated but has to communicate a lot. If it’s something like an illustration, generally I discover new ideas while I’m working on it, so I would just keep doing it and let it take me where it needs to go.
